
Celebration of the day starts across the world on April 15 for the Bengali community as they commence ‘Pohela Boishakh’ which literally translates to the setting of the date for ‘the first day’ on the bengali calendar this year marks the year ‘1432’. The event is not just limited to marking the date on the calendar as symbols like bengali joy or helps them express their identity are celebrated to connect the people even further through modern technology.
The event marks the beginning of a whole new diplomatic period as we jump straight to ‘The Mughals’ period as they were the ones who gave life to the event by providing basic framework around and the deuren of celebrating festival was set far before then down south in India collecting taxes was the main reason ‘Akbar’ bought this event into being though it started off as just a way of collecting money it ended up turning into a big joyous occasion.
In simpler words this event helps to make further improve financially and emotionally. New sets of ‘haal khata’ or books are created for traders, sprucing starts taking place for the house and that joy is taken forward from sadness.
A Mix of Color and Joy
All over the regions of West Bengal, and West Bengal, the Boishakh festival is celebrated with tremendous joy and bang!
As seen in Dhaka, it is very common for people to come out at Mangal Shobhajatra the procession takes place at early morning. Procession attracts thousands of people with colorful animal forms and terms of peace and unity.
People take pride in their culture as it is represented by folk dances, rabindro sangeet, and also drama done in cultural centers of Kolkata, Rabindra Sadan, and Nandan.
Relatives and friends gather with each others wearing traditional clothes: white and red sarees along with kurta pajama bringing them along flower garlands, which is a great way of showing them so.
Food also plays a very important role during the Boishak festival as people prefer panta bhaat (fermented rice), ilish maach hilsha(fish), and different types of sweets besides mishti doi. Comfy yet nostalgic.

Picking this date focuses on more digitally sustainable celebrations. Packaged decorations are less preferable this year due to sustainability attempts. Reusable textile banners alongside vegetable dyes are the way to go.
The role of social media has been critical till now. Bengali youth are using platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok to reinterpret traditions. They are modernizing folk songs, cooking ancestral recipes, and showing off fashion inspired by classics. Things that used to happen in the courtyards and community halls have now moved to the vibrant digital world.
On the other hand, Pohela Boishakh 2025 is also an occasion for quiet reminiscence. In light of contemporary world challenges like socio-technological shifts, economic uncertainty, and social evolution, many people seek a sense of stabling on culture for restabilization.
