MI Cape Town vs Paarl Royals: Batting Marvels of MI Cape Town
After winning the toss, MI Cape Town was asked to bat first. Thanks to the openers, Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen, the Cape Town team was off to a flying start. The pair built a formidable alliance of 87 and set the stage for a high scoring match.
- Rickelton was brutal on the bowling attack and scored a quick 44 runs in just 27 balls including 6 fours and a six.
- Rassie van der Dussen played with some restraint at the start of his innings but eventually scored 40 runs off 31 balls, providing the much needed thrust in the middle overs.
Their partnership gave MICT a strong foundation, and as always, the middle order batsmen capitalized immensely on it.
- George Linder started the innings strong, scoring 26 runs in just 14 balls with some impressive shots.
- South Africa’s D. Brevis, a skilled and aggressive batsman, scored 44 runs off 30 balls and stayed not out in the later part of the innings.
Finishing the innings off well by scoring 32 runs off just 17 balls was Delano Potgieter.
Potgieter and Brevis scored 74 runs in the final three overs booked MI Cape Town a huge total of 199 runs in 20 overs. With that kind of batting at the death, the Royals would have gone into the chase with no momentum whatsoever.
MI Cape Town vs Paarl Royals: The Royals’ Chase Had Its Own Set of Problems
Having to chase a total of 200, the Royals needed a fast start. Unfortunately, MI Cape Town’s bowlers were looking to try and put them in the mud. Through 6 overs the Royals found themselves in deep trouble having lost 3 wickets and after the Powerplay were sitting at 45/3.
- Buttler, one of the Royal team’s leading players, was taken out of the game very early and only managed to score 10 runs.
- Roy didn’t do much better. In fact, he never made an impact at all and went for a very disappointing 13 runs.
- Lubbe could have helped but only scored 5 runs and then went out.
When the top order fell apart early on, it was left to captain David Miller to salvage the innings and he did so commendably by scoring 45 runs off 26 balls with five fours and two sixes which kept the Royals interested in the match.
He was partnered by seasoned willow wielder Dinesh Karthik who added 31 runs as the two attempted to rebuild the innings after earlier devastation alongside Miller.
The Royals kept losing at very pivotal points in the match which was a big issue when it came to building any kind of momentum.
In the end, MI Cape Town’s disciplined bowling attack forced the Royals to succumb to an innings defeat in 19.4 overs for 160 runs which was 39 runs less than the target with no one to support Miller’s efforts.
MI Cape Town vs Paarl Royals: MI Cape Town’s Bowling Dominance
MI Cape Town were relentless and their discipline with their bowling ensured the Royals could not build any partnerships which led to a remarkable collapse.
In his four over spell, Kagiso Rabada managed to pick up 2 wickets for 18 runs which was absolutely brilliant.
Rashid Khan the captain added 2 wickets for 23 runs which once again proved the synonyms of run.
Royals were never able to construct a solid partnership due to Trent Boult and Corbin Bosch who also helped himself to a brace.
It was virtually impossible for the Royals to keep pace with the required run rate owing to the severe strain inflicted by the disciplined bowling attack combined with sharp fielding, and in the end, it sealed their fate.
